Chapel of Jimmy Ray returns

By John Dodge Meyer

After a pandemic imposed hiatus and an unexpected tragic loss, The Chapel of Jimmy Ray returns. One of the “wonders” of the San Miguel de Allende art world; Anado McLauchlin’s dream has awoken again. This time under the guidance of Richard Schultz, Anado’s partner in all things of the heart, body and mind, and of the vision, soul and inspiration. It was a righteous brotherhood indeed for these two men of the world. Their combined talents and energy created an oasis of visual delight and meaning. A mosaic pallazo for contemplation, appreciation and sheer enjoyment. One wanders these colorfully graced grounds outside of San Miguel with growing amazement and admiration. But, as they say, Rome wasn’t built in a day and The Chapel has been decades in the planning and execution. Both men of the world, Anado and Richard traveled many roads to arrive in this inspirational high desert setting. Somehow it has to be assumed that this cradle of the surreal; this artistic axis point that is Mexico would exert the same gravitational pull on these seekers that it has on so many.

After a lifetime of artistic and spiritual endeavors and 20 years of designing and constructing this homage to the human spirit, Anado McLauchlin’s quintessence left this plane in April 2021, but the showpiece of his and Richard’s work here in Mexico is alive with enough momentous and mischievous visual delight to last well beyond this lifetime.

In current news, new works by Meryl Truett will be featured at The Chapel of Jimmy Ray gallery in La Cieneguita with an opening party on August 6th.
